Director of preparedness and response Moses Chimphepo said this today in Mponela during the official opening of a two-day media training on Disaster Risk Management.

According to Chimphepo, property worth K1.6 trillion (USD 921 million) got damaged due to various natural disasters that the country has been experiencing, including Cyclone Freddy and Gombe, among others, since 2010.

He added that the frequency of climate-related hazards in Malawi has been increasing in recent decades due to population growth, urbanisation and environmental degradation.
