DCCMS Calls for Communication of Understandable Weather Knowledge Amongst Community Members

Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services (DCCMS) Chief Meteorologist and Head of Public Weather Services, Yobu Kachiwanda, on Sunday 25/05/2025 said that it is crucial to impart knowledge of weather among community members.

He was speaking at Senior Chief Chamba in Machinga district during training of trainers that the consortium organized on Participatory Scenario planning.

Kachiwanda, called on the people to get used to following the weather updates, rating them as crucial.

Through Trocaire, a consortium of non-governmental organizations is running an Irish Aid Civil Society Programme (ICSP) initiative, which has three components of sustainable livelihoods, disaster management and women empowerment.

Trocaire's Climate Justice and Disaster Risk Management Project Officer Phillip Nyasulu said their aim was to empower vulnerable groups, which include women, girls, the elderly and people with disabilities to resilience

The organizations under these initiatives are Catholic Development Commission in Malawi (Cadecom) Zomba and Mangochi, Churches Action in Relief and Development (Card), Ujama Pamodzi, Cicod, and government's Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Development (DCCMS).
