…Norway Contributes US$ 8.3 Million towards Lean Season Response and Home-Grown School Feeding Programme
The Government of Norway on Wednesday, 19th November, 2025 contributed (through World Food Programme Malawi) US$8.3 million towards the 2025/26 Lean Season Food Insecurity Response and the Home-Grown School Feeding Programmes.
Speaking in Lilongwe during the official handover ceremony, Norwegian Ambassador to Malawi Anne Sofie Bjelland, said her government’s support aims to complement national efforts and ensuring that humanitarian assistance is part of a holistic approach.
In his remarks, Commissioner for Disaster Management Affairs Wilson Moleni described the contribution as not just a financial commitment, but a lifeline of hope and resilience for millions of Malawians.
WFP Malawi Country Director and Representative Hyoung-Joon Lim, said the support is vital for ensuring food security and seeing to it that children receive the nutrition they need to learn and thrive.
Out of the US$8.3 million, 4.5 million will support the implementation of the lean season response whereas 3.8 million will cater for the school feeding programme.
