Information on Tropical Storm Fytia
The Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services (DCCMS) issued an update on Tropical Storm Fytia on 30 January 2026 at 12:00. The storm developed in the Mozambique Channel and, at the time of the report, was located at 15.7° South, 47.2° East, with a central pressure of 987 hPa and moving east–south-east at 24 knots (about 44 km/h). According to the forecast track, the storm was expected to move towards landfall in Madagascar within the next 24 hours.
DCCMS indicated that Tropical Storm Fytia was not expected to have a direct impact on Malawi’s weather, but the department committed to continue monitoring the situation and provide updates if conditions changed.
However, the bulletin warned that localized heavy rainfall would still likely occur over central, northern, and parts of lakeshore areas of Malawi over the next three days, while conditions in the southern areas were expected to remain mostly dry
