Destructive Hailstorm Leaves Trail of Damage in T/A Mwabulambya

A hailstorm that struck Traditional Authority Mwabulambya in Chitipa District on January 2, 2026, around 3pm has affected 23 households and one church in seven villages: Stanford, Laban, Mweningala, Alufeyo, Namwalika, James and Henry.
Chitipa District Council PRO Aliko Munde said some houses had roofs blown off while others partially collapsed, while the Pentecostal Holiness Church completely collapsed. One 78 year old woman sustained injuries, and farmland growing maize, beans and soya was destroyed.
Munde said the affected households urgently need assistance in the form of food, shelter and agricultural inputs, and appealed to the corporate world and other well-wishers to support the victims as they recover from the disaster.
