“Zimbabwe and Malawi are inseparable twins and the former’s shoulder is always available for the latter to lean on in her time of need,” said Dr. Nancy Saungweme, Zimbabwe Ambassador to Malawi.
She made the remarks at Capital Hill, Lilongwe when her Government donated assorted relief items that include 300 tons of red sorghum, 800kgs of mealie-mill, 280kgs of sugar, 144 litres of cooking oil, 322 cabin tents and 697 blankets.
She quoted President Emmerson Mnagwagwa’s remarks, stressing that in times of adversity, the spirit of Pan-African solidarity must guide people’s actions.
In his remarks, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr. George Thapatula Chaponda described the gesture as a deep of relief.
“We are deeply grateful for this demonstration of goodwill and solidarity which will be remembered as a testament to the strong bonds of our bilateral relations. On behalf of the State President H.E. Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika and the people of Malawi, kindly extend our heartfelt gratitude to H.E Comrade Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa and the people of Zimbabwe,” said Chaponda.
